Arts and Music
launches for 2012
2012 welcomes Nova – a small,
intimate and independent arts and
music festival set in the stunning
West Susses estate at Bignor
Park from 5th-8th July
Early Bird Tickets on sale NOW
www.ticketline.co.uk/nova-festival
The first ever Nova Festival is brought to you by two of The Big Chill’s cocreators
– co-founder Katrina Larkin and creative producer Victoria Burns.
Set in the stunning West Sussex countryside estate at Bignor Park, Nova is
a small, intimate and independent arts and music festival built on
consideration and care for the smallest details and with the biggest ideas.
From 5th to 8th July, Nova will host inspiring artistic offerings to delight and
captivate audiences plus a music programme featuring both established
and up-and-coming acts expected to propel onto the music scene in 2012.
Nova Festival is set to become the UK’s leading bijous festival for 2012.
Nova Festival is a new kind of festival setting its sights on becoming the leading bijous festival in the UK. Taking the
biggest ideas and building a festival dedicated to those who love art and music, it is small, intimate and independent.
Nova’s estate home is carefully positioned in West Sussex, easily accessible yet hidden away behind towering trees,
tranquil lakes and undulating meadows. Four days will captivate festival-goers with excellent music offerings and a
fervour of artistic talent to satisfy all and ensure Nova Festival will be revisited year on year.
Gates open on Thursday 5th July allowing visitors to stroll to the camping area, pitch up tents and be greeted with the
festival’s very own pub, The Nova Arms, where afternoons can be spent watching a mad medley of pub
entertainment, evenings filled with campsite campfire sessions plus a chance to see classic film screenings at the
dedicated outdoor cinema.
Friday morning, Nova opens its gates to the enchanting Zen Gardens offering therapies and a hot tub experience
beneath the trees and surrounded by the UK’s finest immersive and interactive outdoor art. By night the gardens take
on a new dimension – bathed in artful illuminations and the perfect place for mischief amongst the woodland terrain.
Throughout the day and into late evening there will be foraging, campfire cooking sessions, night walks and strange
guided tours.
Friday sees the festival leap into life. The Valley Stage offers a line-up of brilliant, eclectic break-through new music
alongside more established favourites. The Super-Nova DJ Bar will serve specially created cocktails to keep all
moving to top class DJs spinning an array of dance floor styles. The Fearless Theatre plays host to wildly creative
and fantastically eccentric comedy, cabaret and theatre. There will be opportunities to take part at The Public Art
Studios and display works in the People’s Gallery or join the village choir. And when all that matters is a cup of tea,
head to the Tea Dance for a cup of rosie lee and do a turn around the floor.
More music and curios will spring up among the trees and performers will take to the stage on the lake. Children will
be enchanted at The Land of The Bumbley Boo and The Wordsmithy will engage minds and spark imaginations with
lively debates, authors’ talks, readings and spoken word performances.
Every bar at Nova Festival will be fairly priced, well stocked with local liquor, ciders, ales and champagne, as well as
everything needed to make generous cocktails. An array of handpicked stalls offering delicious food will be scattered
across the beautiful site and there will be no shortage of beautiful places to picnic.
Nova Festival of Arts and Music takes place from Thursday 5th July till Sunday 8th July.

KAI FISH (MYSTERY JETS)

Life In Monochrome is the debut album of in-demand writer, and member of indie-pop royals Mystery Jets, Kai Fish.

His first solo endeavor is a highly personal record of sweeping, cinematic, pop, which sees Fish coming firmly into his own as an accomplished artist and songwriter.

As bass player and one of the creative driving-forces in the Mystery Jets throughout the bands three acclaimed albums, Fish has always been a prolific songwriter in his own right, having written or co-written many of the bands most well-known tracks, as well as independently penning tunes for the likes of Mark Ronson and The Count & Sinden. While the songs on Life In Monochrome communicate with some of the Jets’ signature traits of expertly crafted melody and a quirky playfulness, they are also of a distinctively personal and introspective nature, drawing influence from a wide lineage of great British songwriters, from the likes of Ray Davies to Damon Albarn.

The album was born out of a period of great change and turmoil in Fish’s life, having gone through the breakup of a 6 year relationship, and into a one which quickly led to marriage and a relocation to Paris, a place he dreamed of living as a teenager, within the span of 3 months.
There, driven by an outpouring of inspiration (most of the albums lyrics were written during a single train journey) and an urge to bring his recent experiences and reflections to expression, he set up shop in a small, intimate studio, with the help of friend and mentor Hervé, where he was joined by a host of guest musicians and friends to help realize his vision, including Californian producer Dean Reid, Mystery Jets members William Rees and Kapil Trivedi, Lisa Wisznia of French group Elephant and singer Sophie-Rose Harper.

An ambitious and sonically inquisitive record, Fish reveals himself as a versatile pop maverick, from the blues-tinged country rock of Dig Your Own Well, Gorillaz-echoing acoustic melancholia turn anthemic rocker of Real Life, to the soulful, backyard lament and cathartic guitar assault of album centerpiece Cobalt Cheeks.

FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND

Following a massive sell-out show in May of this year, Welsh rockers Funeral for a Friend prepare to storm Gloucester Guildhall a second time.

Funeral for a Friend, named after a song by Planes Mistaken For Stars rather than the Elton John instrumental, came together in Bridgend in 2001. They started off by recording four tracks for a proposed self-funded EP but as soon as Mighty Atom Records heard the tracks they signed the band up for a two-album deal, from which came their debut EP Between Order and Model. Before its release in 2002 the majority of the band actually quit, but this didn’t deter the remaining members and they re-recruited and recorded their second EP, Four Ways to Scream Your Name, the following year. Thanks to their dedicated fan base, the band won the Kerrang! award for Best UK Newcomer in 2003, beating The Darkness and Million Dead. They followed up their success by playing at Reading and Leeds the same year.

With expectations building, Funeral for a Friend released their first full-length album, Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation, to critical acclaim in October 2003, which produced three Top 20 singles. The band extensively toured the album, including opening for Iron Maiden in a series of European dates. Going from strength to strength, and with their fan base steadily growing, they went on to release three more albums and a greatest hits compilation entitled Your History Is Mine: 2002-2009. They toured internationally, landed themselves a support slot for Guns N’ Roses, picked up another Kerrang! award, this time for Best British Band, and notched up more six Top 40 singles.

Funeral for a Friend’s eagerly anticipated fifth album, Welcome Home Armageddon, was released earlier this year through Pledge Music. Speaking to the BBC, singer Matt Davies said, “2011 will be the year of Funeral for a Friend so you all better be prepared for it!” Make sure you don’t miss out on what is guaranteed to be an exciting, high-energy show.

Shaun William George Ryder is a Singer, an Author, a Father, an Actor, an ex-Heroin addict, a lyricist and a King of the Jungle..

He also fronted two of the most important, generation-defining bands that Britain has seen in the last 20 years.

The Happy Mondays are widely credited with innovating the “Madchester” movement that shook the UK music to it’s core and saw the end of hair metal and synth pop in the mid to late 80’s. They were a band that never did things easily – once promoting their own show at the G-Mex venue in Manchester and selling out to 10,000 capacity within a week because their promoter at the time wasn’t confident in the show!

After headlining Glastonbury Festival, producing albums with Paul Oakenfold, touring the world and selling millions of records the band split in 1993. Never one to be kept down though – Shaun Ryder returned in 1995 with Black Grape – an immediate success co-fronted by former Monday’s man and close friend Bez.

The years after this have seen Shaun undertake a relentless schedule – a Happy Mondays re-union and subsequent world arena tour was coupled with collaborating with Gorrilaz, appearing on I’m a celebrity, get me out of here! a bizarre duet with Russel Watson, voiceovers for the Grand Theft Auto videogame, becoming essentially the leading role in the classic film “24hour party people” and now the author of a bestselling autobiography about his life called “Twisting my melon.”

23rd November 2011 - In the Spring of 2012, Sir Bruce Forsyth will have been working in show business for 70 years. To celebrate the occasion, he returns to the London stage for the first time in more than a decade in a spectacular one-off performance of comedy and music at The Royal Albert Hall.

Says Bruce “I can’t believe it’s been such a long time since I last did what I love best – working to a live theatre audience. It’s how I started and what I did for so many, many years. Television is great but for me as a performer nothing compares to a live theatre show.”

Bruce will be accompanied by an orchestra under the direction of Strictly Come Dancing’s Dave Arch and the show will feature songs from his critically acclaimed EMI album, “These Are My Favourites”.

CONFIRMED! MÖTLEY CRÜE HEADS TO UK BRINGING TOMMY LEE’S 360 DEGREE DRUM ROLLERCOASTER

Mötley Crüe are excited to announce that Tommy Lee will be bringing his mind blowing 360 degree drum roller-coaster to the UK for their December co-headline tour with Def Leppard!

The wonders of the wheel will be spectacularly unveiled during Tommy Lee’s thrilling drum solo where he is launched into multiple loops and pyrotechnics while continuing to perform.

Not one to keep the fun to himself, the drummer also hand picks a fan from the audience to join him for his crazy ride at every show.

Check out just a tease of what to expect this winter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO7k1eMuTxo

Daredevil, Tommy Lee says “This idea came about from when I was a kid going to concerts. Whenever the drummer started his drum solo, I wondered why people would leave to go get a beer, buy a t-shirt, restroom, whatever!! I wanted to show people what happens behind the drum set, so I decided to expose it all by flipping the drums vertical, upside-down making them disappear and fly over the audiences heads! Mötley Crüe brings you on a thrill ride, jump on the 360! Let’s do this! By the way, it’s really f*****g difficult playing while on this ride!“

The band’s highly anticipated tour kicks off next month in Birmingham. Witness the insanity for yourself at the following dates:

DECEMBER 2011

TUESDAY 6 BIRMINGHAM LG ARENA

THURSDAY 8 NOTTINGHAM ARENA

FRIDAY 9 GLASGOW SECC HALL 4

SUNDAY 11 MANCHESTER ARENA

TUESDAY 13 SHEFFIELD ARENA

WEDNESDAY 14 WEMBLEY ARENA

Tickets are on sale now priced at £47.50 London / £45.00 regionally (subject to booking fee) via www.livenation.co.uk.

Mötley Crüe are also about to re-issue their core catalogue on CD and vinyl after a long absence in the market place.

The following albums will be re-released as limited edition Vinyl replica CDs with a 16 page booklet, regular CD’s with a 5 page booklet and on 180g vinyl in a 4 colour Gatefold sleeve: ‘Too Fast For Love’, ‘Shout At The Devil’, ‘Theatre of Pain’, ‘Girls Girls Girls’ and ‘Dr Feelgood’. They will be available November 14, 2011 on Eleven Seven Music.

Red Hot Chili Peppers return to the UK in 2012 for two massive shows next summer

Following the recent release of their tenth studio album I’m With You earlier this year and a sold out UK arena tour, Kilimanjaro Live is proud to announce that Red Hot Chili Peppers will return to Britain in June to perform two massive open-air shows – their only UK dates of 2012. Red Hot Chili Peppers will take to the stage at Knebworth Park, Stevenage on Saturday 23rd June and Stadium of Light, Sunderland on Sunday 24th June 2012. Tickets go on sale from Friday 4th November 2011 from See Tickets www.seetickets.com

Set to occur just weeks before the launch of the 2012 Olympic Games in London these two very special shows will be the only opportunity for UK fans to see Red Hot Chili Peppers live in concert in 2012. Not only will the band play its first-ever major show in the North East of England (their only previous appearance being the 400 capacity Newcastle Riverside gig in 1990), Red Hot Chili Peppers will also join a list of such luminaries as Led Zeppelin, Queen, Robbie Williams and Genesis as headliners of the iconic Knebworth Park

Back in 2005, the band’s three-night headlining stint at London’s famous Hyde Park became the highest-grossing concerts at a single venue in history. These shows were bookended by the release of 2002’s By The Way and 2006’s Stadium Arcadium, which found Red Hot Chili Peppers at the height of its fame in the UK. Their current album I’m With You debuted at #1 on the UK album chart and has been critically acclaimed by British media.

One of the most successful acts in rock history, Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold more than 60 million albums, including five multi-platinum LPs and won six Grammy Awards, including ‘Best Rock Album’ for Stadium Arcadium, ‘Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group’ for Dani California, ‘Best Rock Song’ for Scar Tissue and ‘Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal’ for Give It Away.

When asked if they’re looking forward to these headline shows, Red Hot Chili Peppers front man Anthony Keidis commented: “Our philosophy is we’ll play any day, any time and we’re coming to do Knebworth and Sunderland”. Outspoken bass player Flea also added “Hell yeah! I just wanna explode.”

Special guests joining Red Hot Chili Peppers at these two dates are to be announced in due course.
