LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN…A PRINCESS, ASTRONAUTS FROM SPACE, RUSSIAN BALLET DANCERS, RED DEVILS, SPECTACULAR PYROTECHNICS AND 1500 SCHOOLCHILDREN LINK-UP FOR SPARKS CHARITY-July 3rd and 4th.
Set amid the rolling hills of the newly created South Downs National Park, the beautiful grounds of Windlesham House School near Findon will play host to the 2010 Odyssey Festival; two days of entertainment and activities to raise funds and awareness for Sparks – the children’s medical charity.
To be held over the weekend of July 3rd & 4th, this community based charity event will be officially opened by Sparks Royal Patron HRH Princess Michael of Kent and the Saturday programme will offer visitors a performing arts festival that will bring together some 1500 children from across West Sussex from the age of two years upwards in a series of shows and concerts.
One of the highlights of the weekend will be the Saturday evening Odyssey Show. With a cast of hundreds and cutting edge entertainment technology including the latest in show lighting, lasers and fireworks all performed within a special surround sound system that will envelop the audience, the innovative show will be seen for miles around and break new technical ground as well as providing the audience with an outdoor multi-media spectacular. There will be guest appearances by the Red Devils parachute regiment freefall team, dancers from the London Russian Ballet School and messages from the astronauts of the International Space Station.
Following Saturday night’s extravaganza, the gates will reopen on Sunday lunchtime for an afternoon of music and entertainment. Top of the bill will be the legendary Bootleg Beatles supported by top local bands and performers including the popular Will and the People. Sparks vice-president, top actor ROBERT POWELL, will be among the VIP guests.
Throughout the weekend visitors will also be able to enjoy a range of family fun day attractions and activities such as a fairground (regular charges), air shows, a Super Cars display, face painting, bouncy castle, shopping village and food and drink stalls.
Talking about the weekend Richard Foster, Headmaster of Windlesham House School, said “It is very difficult to put into words just how exciting Odyssey will be and how thrilled we are that Windlesham is hosting this event. I am absolutely convinced that anyone who attends the festival will remember it forever. Not just because of its sheer scale but for the uplifting experience of seeing so many children, having such fun, performing live on a rock concert stage in front of thousands of people. We feel honoured that Odyssey will be opened by HRH Princess Michael of Kent and will conclude with a concert by the Bootleg Beatles.”
“Windlesham hopes Odyssey will bring immense pleasure to thousands of children and their respective family and friends. It is also planned that Odyssey will draw attention to the wonderful work that Sparks does in supporting medical research into keeping children healthy.
“Anyone can play a part in making a difference, simply by being at the Odyssey Festival Weekend.”
