Morning arrives all too soon on day 2 (sorry day 1) at Camp Bestival , and after a quick sortee to Sainsbury for urgent surplies (beer , cider , tobacco for the PR dudes etc) its over to the main stage for the Gruffalo a younger fambase favorite , never seen so many children at a Festival , many in fancy dress quite a sight ,,,, I was expecting a big scary creation to appear as the Gruffalo and have to say was disappointed by the Wizard of Oz cowardly  Lion cast-off costumed adaptation that appeared however this is again probably an age issue as all the children loved it …

The next act I catch is the Lucky Elephant , a slow chilled out sounding band more apt for pimms on a sunday than a prelude to the Blockheads , this is evident by the pretty sparse crowd (OK the fancy dress comp had just happened which may have some bearing) Musically the neat mix of wurlitzers, harmoniums and the occasional smatter of more contemporary afro-beat rhythms popularized by Vampire Weekend by way of Paul Simon’s Graceland are ear pleasing

The Mighty Blockheads are up next which causes problems as it coincides with the gorgeous Ellie Golding attending the press tent for interviews and pics …a compromise is called for so shoot two songs from the pit and hot-tail it back for Ellie who after many interviews poses up for us both inside then out by the trees . here I lend her my camera so she can take a few shots of the photographers and enjoys this laughing and snapping away before insisting on having a photo with me bless her

Hurts take the main stage next  , hailing from Manchester this  highly tipped band draw a massive crowd for thier afternoon slot  Coming in the BBC’s top 5 sounds of 2010 these relitivly new outfit look the part with tailored suits and slick hair and sound pretty damn good too

After the usual beak which gives us time to edit a few pics Ellie Goulding  suanters onto the stage zsmiling broadly (obviously still happy after our encounter !!) and fires straight into her now well used festyival set tthe crowd  singing along to all her tunes ,even  having snapped Ellie at previous festivals this year I still find her pretty set enjoyable and look forward to our next encounter

Reggae’s answer to wurzel Gummage , Lee Scratch Perry entertains the masses next with his unique brand of reggae and dub  his amazing stage outfit is a modern day dream coat of colour and array of unusaul items ranging from ipods to crystal balls ,all pretty surreal but great to photograph

I should have shot The Cuban Brothers next , however as Madness are due out for some pics so don’t , The madness shoot turns out to be a waste of time , only a slightly drunk Suggs and Chris come out and some of the over eager  professional snappers can’t contain themselves, moving forward to ruin others pics  heyho still wits not long before the mighty Kings of Ska take to the stage to tale Camp Bestival up to level 11 with their energetic set full of all the usual hits and karaoke classics , a great way (for some of us) to round of a exhausting but fun sun filled day

Enjoyed reading this Jules! So wish I had been there, I am mad about the Hurts! Slick hair cuts and suits to match and what fantastic music! Sounds like a great weekend and you have a photo with Ellie Golding? Can we see it!
