Janelle Monae isn’t just the world’s greatest new pop star. She’s also some kind of revolution” – NME

Officially the hottest prospect of 2010, Atlantic Records/Bad Boy artist – Janelle Monae will return to UK soil to play 2 headline dates in December. The Kansas born chanteuse will bring to life, songs from her critically acclaimed debut – THE ARCHANDROID and play London’s Shepherds Bush Empire on December 5 and 02 Academy in Manchester on December 6. She will also open for Vampire Weekend when they play Alexandra Palace on December 3.

The singer, songwriter and high funk-stress has already earned high praise indeed for her incredible live shows.  Having supported the likes of No Doubt, Common, Paramore and Erykah Badu, most recently she toured the US with psychedelic dance-punk troupe Of Montreal building upon her solid reputation for an exceptional live performance.  Her sold-out Hoxton Bar & Kitchen gig prompted The Guardian Newspaper to dub her, “the most exciting new artist in the world”, whilst her recent (also) sold-out show at KoKo was described by the Independent On Sunday as “outstanding”.

Janelle Monae’s debut THE ARCHANDROID blends the talents of executive producers Nate Wonder, Chuck Lightning, Big Boi and Sean ‘P.Diddy’ Combs. Additional guests include renowned poet Saul Williams and punk prophets Deep Cotton. It’s the next chapter to the story of Cindi Mayweather, the heroine of Monáe’s Grammy-nominated EP Metropolis, Suite I: The Chase, which captured the imaginations of fans and fellow artists alike.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) honoured Janelle Monae with the prestigious Vanguard Award. Past recipients include The Beastie Boys, The Strokes, the Killers and Santigold to name a few.  She is also nominated for a Mobo Award (Music Of Black Origin) for Best International Act at this year’s ceremony taking place on October 20 in Liverpool.

For Janelle Monáe, however, the impetus remains – to create music to stir your soul and get your feet moving. “Musically, The ArchAndroid is an epic James Bond film in outer space,” describes Monáe who has carved out her own path by following her instincts.  “I want to be looked at as a leader and businesswoman”, she says.  “I really feel that music and artists have a huge influence in the way we think. My goal is to help bring as many people as I possibly can together with my music”.
