Gloucester Guildhall Presents The View

Gloucester Guildhall Presents

The View

Dundee foursome The View return to Gloucester Guildhall as part of an epic comeback tour.

From humble beginnings as a school covers band playing Squeeze and Sex Pistols, The View shot to fame in 2006 when they caught the attention of Radio 1 DJs Zane Lowe and Jo Whiley with their eponymous debut EP. Their first single, Wasted Little DJs, said to be dedicated to a pair of blonde hairdressers from their hometown, made it onto the Radio 1 daytime playlist and went on to enter the UK singles chart at #15 on 7th August 2006, subsequently reaching #1 in the UK MTV video charts. Second single, Superstar Tradesman, enjoyed similar success and arguably their most popular hit to date, Same Jeans, earned the band their highest ever chart position of #3. Their debut album, Hats Off to the Buskers, was released a week later on 22nd January 2007 and shot straight to #1 in the UK albums chart.

With a sell-out tour and appearances at several of the major festivals under their belts, The View released their second album, Which Bitch?, in February 2009 and, despite singles from the album failing to chart as highly as previous releases, the album itself reached a very respectable #4 in the UK albums chart.

The much-anticipated (and as-yet untitled) third album from The View is expected to be released early next year. Produced by Youth (The Verve, Primal Scream), bassist Kieran Webster said that although the record sounds “different” it does still have “elements of the first and second albums in it”. And with new songs such as Underneath The Lights and Tragic Magic being previewed during their set at this year’s T in the Park, fans of the band will be only too happy to welcome them back to Gloucester Guildhall.
