Gloucester Guildhall Presents
One of the last surviving bands of Britain’s punk era, UK Subs make their annual pilgrimage to Gloucester Guildhall as part of their latest headline tour.
They’ve had over 50 different members since their formation in 1977 but decades after the disbanding of other late-1970s punk groups such as The Sex Pistols and The Clash, UK Subs continue to perform to enraptured fans both young and old. Led by the indefatigable Charlie Harper, the band enjoyed success straight off the bat, with seven consecutive UK Top 30 hits between 1979 and 1981, establishing themselves throughout the world with a heavy touring schedule that still continues today. During their long and varied career they have played several John Peel sessions, appeared at Glastonbury Festival and were even the subject of a Julien Temple directed film documentary entitled Punk Can Take It. Tributes have come in the form of Down On The Farm appearing on Guns N’ Roses’ cover album The Spaghetti Incident? and the use of Warhead on the popular film This Is England.
Currently putting the finishing touches to their new album with a recording line-up of Charlie Harper, Jet Storm, Alvin Gibbs and Jamie Oliver, Work In Progress is the band’s 23rd album, conforming of course to the trend of each album starting with a successive letter of the alphabet, and is set to prove that UK Subs have still got plenty of life in them yet.
