The promoters behind Kendal Calling have teamed up with Wild Beasts for a Cumbria homecoming show. Critically acclaimed Kendal four-piece Wild Beasts are set to release their much-anticipated third album, Smother, on 9th May 2011. The follow-up to the Mercury-nominated and critically acclaimed Two Dancers, described by The Sunday Times as “one of 2009’s indisputable masterpieces”. The Domino Records signed band are hitting the road for a tour of intimate venues including the very beautiful Coronation Hall in Ulverston, just a stone’s throw away from their hometown in the Lake District.
This unique pop group are renowned for their creativity and mix of many different styles with songs that refuse to be pigeonholed fusing genres and styles, with some almost operatic vocals. They dare to be different & steer clear of ‘the norm’, which is reflected in their unusual choice of musical arrangements, vocal styles and lyrics.
Expect to hear their eagerly anticipated new material alongside much-loved songs All the Kings Men, Hooting & Howling and Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants at this very special show.
This Wild Beasts gig is brought to you by the team behind Kendal Calling festival who are huge fans of the band having had them play twice at the award-winning Lake District festival. This show will be a warm up for Kendal Calling ahead of this year’s event taking place between Friday 29th July and Sunday 31st July.

Kendal Calling Festival are the Lake District’s pioneering promoters who host the annual show in the Lowther Deer Park promoting international talent and up and coming acts. Kendal Calling won the Best Small Festival accolade at the 2010 UK Festival Awards hosted in London’s 02 Arena. The team behind this award-winning event also programme a series of other gigs throughout the year including British Sea Powers mini festival at Tan Hill, Wild Beasts, Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show and Frank Turner amongst many others.
This year Kendal Calling will be an 8000 capacity show spanning 8 stages. They have just revealed a sterling line up that includes Blondie, Chase & Status and The Cribs as headliners.
